Beep Saver 1.1 is a freeware system extension designed for users of either Appleﾕs (Monitor) Energy Saver or CPU Energy Saver control panels or both.
The (Monitor) Energy Saver control panel, which is distributed with Appleﾕs new multiple scan monitors, turns off the Energy-Star compliant monitors after a specified time interval to save energy. When the user wakes the monitor, the monitor turns back on accompanied by a repetitive, annoying beep.
Similarly, the CPU Energy Saver, which is distributed with new Macintoshes, can be used to schedule automatic shutdown of the computer after an idle or specified time. When the computer is about to be shutdown, it begins a 30-second countdown accompanied by an annoying sound.
In the case of the (Monitor) Energy Saver control panel, Beep Saver 1.1 shuts off the beeping and replaces it with a display of the LEDs on the Apple Extended keyboard, the Apple Extended Keyboard II, the Apple Design Keyboard, or a toggling of the Caps Lock LED on the Apple Adjustable Keyboard. In the case of the CPU Energy Saver, Beep Saver 1.1 simply turns off the sound for the duration of the countdown.
You can use Beep Saver 1.1 in the presence of the (Monitor) Energy Saver control panel, the CPU Energy Saver, or both. Beep Saver 1.1 works with (Monitor) Energy Saver version 1.1 and CPU Energy Saver version 1.0.6. It has also been tested with (Monitor) Energy Saver 1.0, CPU Energy Saver 1.0.2 and CPU Energy Saver 1.0.5.
To use Beep Saver 1.1, copy it to the Extensions folder of the System folder (or by dragging its icon over the System Folder icon). In this location, Beep Saver 1.1 will load before the control panel you want to use it with, either (Monitor) Energy Saver, CPU Energy Saver, or both.
In the case of the (Monitor) Energy Saver control panel, when it is time for Beep Saver 1.1 to run, it checks for the presence of the aforementioned keyboards (in their standard configuration). If it doesnﾕt find one, the beeps still will not occur, but neither will the keyboard lights display. In the case of CPU Energy Saver control panel, operation is automatic when the countdown dialog appears.
Beep Saver 1.1 runs emulated on Power Macintoshes.
Beep Saver 1.1 also fixes some incompatibility problems present in Beep Saver 1.0, which it replaces.
